About

KPUD is bringing fast, fiber internet to Kitsap County!

Who We Are
Kitsap Public Utility District (KPUD) provides an open access, fiber optic network throughout Kitsap County which delivers fiber internet to homes and businesses. Instead of being a typical retail internet service provider (ISP), KPUD teams up with approved ISPs that use the KPUD network to offer you fast and reliable internet service. The network is open access, meaning that once you are connected, you get to pick from multiple service providers that operate on the KPUD network.

Fiber Path & Installation Process
Fiber can be installed aerially or underground. When installing fiber to the home, KPUD typically follows the same path as the electric utility provider and existing utility easements. When electricity is aerial, KPUD attaches fiber lines to power poles, and when underground KPUD uses conduit installations. The fiber path to the home is created from KPUD’s nearest connection point on the main fiber line. At the home, KPUD technicians install equipment that attaches to the exterior of the home and feeds through to the interior to connect an in-home power source. An interior outlet is required to be within 10 feet of the exterior housing unit.

Payment: Connection Fee & Construction Costs
Homeowners are required to enter into a Residential Broadband Contract which signifies agreement for KPUD to install fiber equipment at your premise. KPUD charges a one-time $200 Connection Fee which must be paid prior to installation. If construction is required to extend service to the home, additional fees may apply. The KPUD Fiber Team provides fiber construction estimates upon request, and homeowners have the ability to finance construction costs through a Non-Contiguous Local Utility District (NCLUD) Contract which provides for financing over a 20-year loan period. This loan is guaranteed with a lien against the property and is repaid with interest annually through the Kitsap County Treasurer. Homeowners can pay their final assessment at any time without penalties or fees. The NLCUD allows KPUD to begin construction without any upfront cost to the homeowner.

Internet Services
Customers who connect to KPUD Fiber can choose from 100 Mbps or 1 Gig upload/download speeds. Some ISPs provide additional options such as phone service. Monthly service fees are paid directly to your chosen service provider. Visit the Explore our Internet Service Providers tab to learn more about the ISPs and services available on the KPUD Network.
